Paul has spent 35 years serving various roles in the oil and gas industry. He is currently the Managing Director and founder of Energy Training Resources, which provides training and consulting services. Paul’s activities at Energy Training Resources put him in contact with a wide variety of commercial and operational industry issues and keep him updated on current events. He works both domestically and internationally and is knowledgeable about both onshore and offshore.
Prior to Energy Training Resources, Paul worked 24 years with Occidental Petroleum Corporation. He has been involved with audit, acquisition analysis, divestiture coordination, planning, and project reviews. His later roles with Occidental included serving as divisional chief financial officer for Occidental’s operating divisions in The Netherlands and in the Permian Basin of West Texas and New Mexico, which is Occidental’s largest operation.
Paul is well versed with oil and gas operational and financial accounting and internal controls. He has worked on numerous domestic and international transactions and has hands-on experience with economic analysis, transaction coordination, due diligence, and purchase and sale agreements – from both the buy side and sell side.
Paul is very familiar with both domestic and international mineral rights contracts and joint operating agreements. He also well versed with audit issues related to both. He has relationships with audit firms that can bring additional resources for joint-venture audits, vendor audits or forensic audits.
Paul is comfortable speaking in public forums and is available as an expert witness or to address investors, management or staff to explain market events, commercial issues, industry functions, best practices, etc.
Paul has a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin, an MBA from the University of Houston, and is a Certified Public Accountant. Paul also has a certificate in Professional Land Management from the Petroleum Extension Service of the University of Texas. Paul networks throughout the industry and stays current on industry topics. He is a member of the Independent Petroleum Association of America and the Houston Producers Forum. He has presented on oil and gas topics in a variety of forums including the American Petroleum Institute, the Houston Geological Society, the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists and the EnergyMakers show.
